A.J. Hartwick ’25 has been named a 2025 Newman Civic Fellow, recognizing his leadership in creating social change and advocating for marginalized communities. Hartwick, who will participate in a yearlong program for students with leadership potential as a Newman fellow, was also honored by the national ALL IN Campus Democracy program for his voter registration efforts.
Newman fellows are nominated by their college presidents or chancellors, who are invited to select one exemplary student from their campus each year. “A.J.’s work shows the ability to collaborate with campus and community partners and a deep motivation for effective long-term civic engagement long after Denison,” Denison President Adam Weinberg wrote in his nomination of Hartwick. “(He) is a leader creating social change through his advocacy for marginalized communities and his work regarding voting rights and access on Denison’s campus and in the community.”
