Denison’s Tuesday Faculty Lunch Series welcomes Maggie Messitt, “Writing in Place” Fellow with Journalism at Denison, presenting “Art(i)fact: One Story and the Craft of Fact-based Narratives.”
For six years, Mellon Fellow Maggie Messitt has explored a single story almost obsessively and the result, as presented in her Lecture “Art(i)fact: One Story, Seven Ways,” pushes the boundaries of how we think about our research. She briefly brings us inside the story of her aunt, a Midwesterner-turned-NYC artist who went missing in the rainforests of Maui, and then deep-dives into the seven ways her search—part memoir, part investigation—not only pieces together what happened to her missing aunt, but also brings us inside ‘missing persons in America’ and how we deal, often inadequately, with the missing and the dead.
