Accessibility & Disability Accommodation Resolution
Overview
Denison University is committed to providing equal access to all programs and services for students with disabilities in compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990, under which no qualified student with a disability shall be denied access to or participation in programs, services or activities. Students who believe they have been denied equal access due to accommodation decisions or implementation may utilize the following mechanisms to address their concerns.
Addressing Accommodations Concerns
- Self-Advocacy: Students are encouraged to address concerns directly with the relevant faculty or staff member.
- ARC Concerns: Students may discuss the ARC accommodation decisions with the ARC Assistant Director. To schedule an appointment with the Assistant Director, please send an email to disabilityservices@denison.edu.
- Informal Resolution:
- If self-advocacy or ARC discussions are unsuccessful, students may submit a written request for resolution to the Director of Civil Rights and Title IX (DCR) within 30 days of the incident.
- The DCR will facilitate an informal resolution process involving the student, relevant parties, and a facilitator.
- Appeal on the Informal Resolution: If the informal resolution is unsuccessful, students may appeal to the Associate Provost for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion or their designee.
If you’re a student with a disability and believe you need to consider an accommodation resolution, please contact disabilityservices@denison.edu.
