I spent this summer continuing to ask a question that I have been asking for an amount of time: What is a home? Specifically, I wanted to tell the story of what I think a home might be, based off of my experience of it. As part of the Summer Scholar Program at Denison University, I investigated the homes I have lived in the United States, and the memories that are bound to these physical places. The exhibition is a visual representation of my research and reflection surrounding the idea of home.
I understand home being a domestic surrounding that reflects authentic characteristics and reveals truths about one’s self. In this sense, home is a tangible space that often shows the trace of time, people, and objects that once occupied it. However, home also transcends the physical realms. To me, home is non-existent place; there is not a single physical place I can pinpoint or label so. Within the gallery, I seek to construct such a space where these elements coexist - both tangible and abstract, realistic and sentimental.
