Denison University’s Senior Visual Art Majors proudly present YOU MADE THAT UP TO SCARE ME, an exhibition born from an era of heightened uncertainty, sensationalized headlines, and collective unease. Yet, this exhibition is not about those fears themselves, but about what we choose to create in spite of them. The exhibit is on display through Friday, April 25 through Friday, May 16. The art students will be presenting a gallery talk on their work Friday, May 2, at 3 p.m.
A wide variety of work will be exhibited, including paintings, prints, illustrations, sculpture, and digital media. The topics address a diverse range of themes such as personal experience, home, the environment, fictional universes and more.
The work in this exhibition also pauses to notice, taking seemingly small moments, overlooked ideas, or fleeting anxieties and making them large—demanding attention, exaggerating, transforming. In doing so, these works respond to one another with a sense of both urgency and play, as if conversing, you made that up to scare me.
