Denison students are spending three days packed with information and learning, getting ready for their career search. More than 30 students arrive on campus early from their winter break to take part in the Career Boot Camp that will give them tips, tools and good old-fashioned boots-on-the-ground experience to get ready for their lifelong career journey.
Beginning bright and early Wednesday morning, students take part in a “Designing Your Life” session, based on the New York Times best-selling book. First-year and sophomore students then start on resume workshops, while juniors and seniors launch into job search tools.
After lunch, they all gather for an afternoon of networking and interview training, before dinner and a fun session with Denison’s Burpee’s Seedy Improv Group.
Thursday morning students board vans that take them into Columbus, where they’ll break into two groups and visit local and international companies, including Alliance Data, Nestle Quality Assurance and Root Insurance, or L Brands, Grange Insurance and Ologie. After dinner in town, they’ll take part in a networking event at the offices of Bricker and Eckler attorneys.
On Friday, students will head off-campus again, to local landmark Bryn Du Mansion, where they’ll have breakfast and work on interview techniques. During the afternoon, they’ll learn how to develop their personal brand and hone presentation skills, or they can learn information specific to business, consulting and finance through the CASE Interview process. Later that afternoon, students will each receive personal feedback and an individual assessment of their skills.
All told, it’s a great way for students to hit the ground running for their career and internship searches.
