Denison Consulting Spring 2025 & Fall 2025 Semesters

Denison Consulting (powered by the Red Frame Lab) is a semester-long program, working in teams, getting the real consulting experience, with real clients under the coaching of the Red Frame Lab staff and Partners in Residence, who are consultants with extensive experience and subject matter expertise from firms like Accenture, KPMG, E&Y, Deloitte, Slalom, McKinsey, Booz Allen, Navigator, and GLG.

As student consultants, you will:


  • Work with a successful business for an extraordinary career-building opportunity.

  • Research, create and pitch real-world solutions to actual business challenges while learning directly from the company’s executives.

  • Gain real-world experience.

  • Develop relationships, mentorships, and networks.

  • Have a great story to tell in your next interview.

We are currently accepting applications for the Spring 2025 and Fall 2025 Semesters.

This dynamic accelerator prepares you for the future of AI and your career. As AI transforms industries, this series will give you the tools to stay ahead. You’ll learn foundations, ethics, and advanced techniques like prompt engineering, while also connecting with industry professionals who use AI in their work. In addition to learning and engaging with AI tools, you’ll discover how to integrate AI into your career preparation—whether it’s crafting AI-optimized resumes, writing cover letters, or acing AI-driven interviews. By the end of the series, you'll be equipped to navigate the evolving job market and lead in an AI-powered world.

This 4-part accelerator, hosted by Denison Edge and ITS, will meet weekly on campus from February 10 to March 3. Each 75-minute session will include a mix of lectures, hands-on experiences, and discussions, giving you practical skills and insights to apply immediately.

HYBRID Denison Edge: Grant Writing for Nonprofits Accelerator

This is a hybrid program. The first and fourth session will meet in-person at Denison Edge while the second and third session will be online via Zoom.

 

This program will provide you with a basic introduction to the vital field of grant writing, equipping you with the tools (and tricks of the trade) you’ll need to get started. It will include a look at the nonprofit grants landscape; an overview of grant components and the grant life cycle; and invaluable tips for writing successful narratives, conveying impact, and crafting budgets. Through open discussions, hands-on activities, and roundtables with experts, you’ll come away with an understanding of grant writing, what it entails, and how it might be changing. More specifically, you’ll discover what comprises a grant and its life cycle, learn how to identify relevant grants, garner tips for writing compelling narratives, acquire tools for conveying impact, and how AI might be affecting the field.

 

Meet Your Instructor

Karen Simonian is an experienced writer, editor, and nonprofit fundraiser. Karen worked for the Wexner Center for the Arts at The Ohio State University for 25 years, focused variously on grant writing, stakeholder communications, media relations, and strategic messaging. As co-interim head of advancement in 2024, she oversaw major philanthropic initiatives; directed and implemented the grants program; and co-led a fundraising team. Over the years, she secured major funding for the Wex’s nonprofit affiliate (Wexner Center Foundation) from such entities as the National Endowment for the Arts, the Institute of Museum and Library Services, and the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, and significantly expanded and diversified the center’s funding sources. She also directed the center’s media relations efforts, procuring coverage in such outlets as the New York Times, the New Yorker, Vogue, and Artforum, and on CBS News Sunday Morning, PBS News Hour, and NPR. Prior to joining the Wex, Simonian was an award-winning writer and arts editor for Columbus newsweekly The Other Paper, and wrote for Columbus Monthly magazine and other outlets.

Stacy is the Founder of twoMartin where she also serves as a Management Consultant, guiding leaders to implement wide-scale Organizational Transformation. Stacy is an expert consultant with high-stakes delivery experience across 50+ clients and has owned leadership responsibilities spanning client relationship, people management, portfolio delivery and principle-level execution. She is classically trained and certified as a Project Management Professional but blends traditional methods with more adaptive frameworks to deliver project success in a variety of structures and cultures. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and an MBA in Management Information Systems from Bowling Green State University.

Through a combination of personal narrative and case studies, you will walk away with a better idea of what it takes to make a living as a copywriter—maybe even a creative one.

 

This program is led by Jacob Osterhout, a senior writer for BRINC, a start-up public safety drone company in Seattle. He has worked as a copywriter for various advertising agencies over his career, including Leo Burnett, Grey and The Shipyard. His clients have included the NFL, Papa Johns, Febreze, The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, Marlboro, AEP, HP, Scotts Miracle-Gro and Nationwide Children’s Hospital. Before becoming a copywriter, Jacob was a reporter for Sports Illustrated, CBS College Sports, The New York Daily News, Newsweek and The New York Times.

Kent State Suturing Workshop

Kent State University College of Podiatric Medicine is collaborating with Denison to provide an in-depth look at the rewarding medical specialty of podiatry. Join an admissions representative and practicing podiatric physician for a brief informational session, followed by an introductory workshop on suturing! This workshop is suited for those who have limited or no experience in suturing. The Workshop covers instrument basics such as suture types and selection, proper loading of the needle, wound assessment, and hands on experience suturing. Participants will have the opportunity to practice basic suturing techniques. All supplies will be provided for the Workshop. Enrollment is capped at 30 people in order to optimize the learning experience, so please don’t wait to register (and update your registration if you can no longer make it). 


  • This program will last 1.5-2 hours in total, and you must be able to attend the entire program in order to register.

Denison Edge: Art and Image Generation with AI

This Workshop is Session 1 of a 3-part AI Content Creation Accelerator. Each workshop is stand-alone.

Description: This module introduces AI-powered art and photograph generation. Starting with free tools or trials like DALL-E, DaVinci and Metas AI, participants will explore text-to-image generation, creating artistic visuals based on specific prompts. We will also introduce Midjourney, though it requires a paid version, and Imagen (Google Gemini), another powerful tool for creating high-quality images, noting their advantages while focusing on free alternatives. Ethical discussions around originality, ownership, and copyright in AI-generated art will be a central part of this module. Students will use prompt guides to experiment with different visual styles, and the fun challenge will involve creating a unique series of images that represent a fictional world or concept.

Individuals that attend this workshop should have a basic understanding of generative AI tools and be prepared to log in to these systems with their laptops during the workshop.

This course is led by Michael Compton. Compton is a multi-talented expert in Service Design and CX Strategy who facilitates the development of new services and customer experiences in different cultures, sectors and categories, within cross-functional teams and production pipelines of different sizes. As an entrepreneur, Michael has launched 4 different successful start-ups, 3 of them achieving annual multiple $MM revenues, while raising $10MM in venture capital. As an organization builder, Michael has navigated the change from lean startups to structured management teams, as well as helping technical service firms become strategic consultancies. It might seem like a long way off, but acting upon a solid investment strategy now will make a world of difference when retirement comes. Get practice evaluating various investment opportunities, risk/return tradeoffs, life-cycle investment decisions, and time value of money considerations to build the future nest egg of your dreams.
At the end of this session, you will be able to:


  • Create your own investment plan

  • Explain how to get started as an investor

  • Differentiate between savings and investing

  • Describe the major risk factors that affect the rate of return on investments

This Workshop is Session 2 of a 3-part AI Content Creation Accelerator. Each workshop is stand-alone.

This workshop will explore free trials of video generation tools such as Runway (ML 3.5) and Invideo, learning to create videos with AI-generated content and voice-overs. Lumilabs AI will also be introduced for its innovative approaches to video content, though it may have limited free access. Ethical concerns around deepfakes and AI-generated media manipulation will be discussed. Workbook exercises will guide students in developing video content, while the fun challenge will be to create a short, AI-generated promotional video for a fictional product or event.
