For nearly 21 years, officer Thomas Baldwin has been a dedicated member of Denison’s campus safety team, helping to create a safe and welcoming environment for students, faculty, and staff.

As part of the day shift team, he is responsible for patrolling campus, assisting students and staff, responding to emergencies, teaching crime prevention, and resolving conflicts. With certifications in CPR, crisis intervention, conflict resolution, anaphylaxis response, Narcan administration, and basic first aid, Baldwin is well-equipped to handle a variety of situations.

For him, the job is about more than just safety — it’s about helping others and making a difference.

“I try to turn someone’s bad day into a better one whenever I can,” he said.

Baldwin values kindness, integrity, and lifelong learning, and he believes in fostering an atmosphere of mutual respect and understanding. One of the most rewarding aspects of his career has been building strong relationships with students and colleagues. Many former students stay in touch with him years after graduation.

“I’ve been fortunate to form lasting connections, and I’m grateful for the impact we’ve had on each other,” he said.

Beyond his daily responsibilities, Baldwin has contributed to orientation programs, community safety workshops, crisis intervention support, and student mentorship. He also served on the Denison University Drug and Alcohol Committee and contributed to the development of the Great 8 program, which promotes campus values.

Outside work, he enjoys spending time with family, watching baseball, traveling, reading, and caring for his pets.

Thank you, Officer Baldwin, for your commitment to making Denison a safer, stronger community!
