What is your professional background?
My entire career has been in Public Safety serving 8 years as a paramedic and 30 years in law enforcement…nearly all at The Ohio State University Police Division with 20 of those years spent as part of the Command Staff.
What is your philosophy of community policing?
Community policing is a philosophy that seeks to address issues of crime by building strong, trusting relationships between police and community members. It is meant to provide stakeholders a way to identify issues that are important to the community and then to work in partnership with law enforcement to improve the overall quality of life and safety. I am a strong proponent of this philosophy and have spent my career with an agency that embraces this approach. I’ve seen firsthand how rewarding teamwork with community members can be and how important relationship building is in addressing crime.
What drew you to work at Denison?
Being involved in Public Safety work at a college campus has been a great way for me to combine a desire to serve the community along with a passion for mentoring public safety staff and students. Throughout my career I have enjoyed meeting new students and then watching them gain confidence and skills through their college years before transitioning to their professional lives. Many former students have become life-long friends.
What do you hope to accomplish here?
I am looking forward to the leadership challenge at our University where everyone is expected to play a role in student development. I hope to develop new relationships and to help celebrate student success.
What do you like to do with your time away from work?
I like to spend time with family playing games or watching movies. We enjoy travelling when we are able.
