At the department FaST Talk on November 9th, the department presented two of the department awards given annually. The winners of the Chosaburo Kato Memorial Award and the Forbes B. Wiley Award were announced. The Chosaburo Kato Memorial Award is given to a promising math or computer science major in his or her junior year. This year the award and cash prize was given to Matt Gibson and Nat Kell. The Forbes B. Wiley Award is given for excellence in math or computer science to a sophomore for work completed in their freshmen year. This year the following students were honored: Sida Cai, Yuting Chen, Janie Frandsen, Alex Longi, Dan Persia, Andrew Quinn, Edward Takahashi, Aaron Wang, Cheng Wu, Zhongxiang Xue, Paul Young, and Jinuan Zhao. This award is also given to juniors for work completed in their first two years. The year, the award was given to: Matt Gibson, Nat Kell , Yajing Guo and Steven Johnson.
