To celebrate the end of another great year in the Math and Computer Science department, staff and students got together for our end of the year picnic. As we enjoyed time together, the picnic also served as a chance for us to recognize the amazing commitment and achievements of our professors and seniors. A few highlights from the afternoon include:
Dr. Bressoud and Dr. Westmoreland as our grill masters
An extreme game of Two Truths and a Lie where we discovered that our professors have competed in the Steampunk Olympics, been stampeded by elephants, been detained and interrogated in Russia, and had many altercations with snakes
Seniors Alivia Tacheny, Maddie Boster, and Kayla Boggess won the John L. Gilpatrick Mathematics Award, recognizing them as the departments most outstanding seniors
Senior Aixin Li and Emily Farrow were awarded the Robinson Award for an outstanding undergraduate research project
Senior Kayla Boggess earned the Alice Hutchison Lytle award for the female math/cs student with highest GPA
Juniors Ben Brown, Mara Kilgore, Caileigh Marshall, and Lauran Robbins were recognized with the Bonar Award for outstanding engagement in the department.
A special appreciation for Joan Krone, a longtime professor and supporter of the Math and CS department, as she prepares to leave Denison and enjoy retirement.
As the semester ends, we will continue to celebrate another fun year on Olin Second Floor. And to our seniors, thank you for all the work you have committed to our department and for inspiring students daily to be curious learners and thoughtful peers. You will be missed!
