For Anna Munro ’24, a global health major “brought together two things I absolutely love, science and healthcare, but from a more social perspective.” Munro’s two experiential learning opportunities reflect her broad base of interest in healthcare.
She took college classes in Spain, where she gained cultural learning experiences and a “firsthand look at a public healthcare system.” During her internship with the Granville Fire Department, Munro did a “ride-along” and attended a six-week training course at the Ohio Fire Academy to become an EMT.
All these experiences support her plans to move to Boston and work as an ER technician to gain clinical hours before applying for physician assistant school. Her EMT internship/ certification gave her ER tech skills, and her study-abroad boosted her cultural competency and “strengthened my skills to work with a Spanish-speaking population,” she says.
