Victoria Turnier ’24 studied in London as part of a health practice and policy program. On Tuesdays, she volunteered at a primary school, “where I helped the teachers with reading to the kids, talking to them, and helping them with different things throughout the day.”
She gained a sense of the nutritional differences in the lunches they had there versus what she had experienced in the United States. “The lunches there seemed a lot more healthy and less processed than what we’re exposed to,” she says.
In her classes, the global health and HESS double major learned why some diseases are more prominent in certain countries and what issues can arise from nutritional disparities..
Turnier plans to pursue a career in healthcare. She is applying to several master’s of public health programs with a goal of working for a nonprofit or organization that addresses disease and chronic disease disparities.
