During a study abroad experience in London, global health and HESS double major Eliza Roach ’25 studied in a different sort of classroom. Roach interned at a public school once a week, focusing on students who were reading below their grade level to help with literacy and comprehension.
“I also taught middle school students physical education, which was such a fulfilling experience to connect with kids in addition to being a student-athlete,” said Roach, a member of Denison’s varsity soccer team.
The Buffalo, New York, native is considering different options such as a master’s in public health or accelerated nursing programs. She is motivated by her awareness of health disparities and why addressing these inequities is so important.
Looking back on her Denison education, Roach said students should say “yes” to every opportunity.
“The things in your life that are stressors right now won’t be in a couple of weeks/months/years,” she says. “Things always get done. It’s so important to take advantage of these moments and opportunities because we are only so young for this long. The spontaneous moments in life are where the most fun comes from.”
