Dr. Lindsey Schwartz joined the faculty in the philosophy department at Denison this fall. Before arriving in Granville, she earned her PhD from University of Wisconsin-Madison and her BA in philosophy from University of Missouri-Kansas City. She teaches a range of subjects including ethical theory, applied ethics, philosophy of law, philosophy of education, social and political philosophy, and information and data ethics. Her research addresses questions of ethics and policy in criminal justice, education, and law with a focus on thinking about how society is and ought to be disposed toward its members who have less-than-full agency as a matter of natural or social circumstance. Though her primary focus is on criminal offenders, young adults, and children, she is curious about how her prescriptions might fare if extended to include entities like non-human animals and artificial intelligences.
