Denison University Associate Professor of Economics Fadhel Kaboub recently was recognized at the Free Press 45th Anniversary Celebration and Awards Dinner, which honored Kaboub with the Debs-Thomas-Harrington Award. The Democratic Socialists of Central Ohio give the Debs-Thomas-Harrington Award to an individual who embodies the principles and practices of Democratic Socialist heroes who have inspired generations with their ground-breaking work in the peace, labor and social justice movements. The awards dinner took place on Monday, Oct. 19, in Columbus, Ohio.
As author of an article, “Let’s Fight Poverty, not the Poor,” published by the Columbus Free Press, Kaboub is a finalist for the Covering the Story – Our Community Comes Together event sponsored by the Community Shares of Mid-Ohio. The awards honor local reporters for their efforts to highlight the work of nonprofits and that shine the light on the issues affecting the community. They will be given on Thursday, Nov. 5.
In addition to his work and research as an economics professor at Denison, Kaboub is president of the Binzagr Institute for Sustainable Prosperity, an independent public policy think-tank dedicated to the promotion of interdisciplinary research in the service of an improved quality of life for all members of society. The Binzagr Institute recently held its first international conference, titled “Provisioning and Prosperity: Sustainable Full Employment and Transformational Technologies.” The conference featured academics, economists and business leaders from across the globe.
