The Global Studies Seminar welcomes Taina Wewer, a Fulbright Visiting Scholar in Residence at Denison’s department of educational studies, presenting “Education as part of welfare policy in Finland.”
Finland is one of the five Nordic welfare countries that attend to their citizens comprehensively. Education has traditionally been seen as an essential part in promoting individual welfare and opportunities, and also as a national success factor and means to increase global competitiveness. Each Nordic country has their own model in organizing public services and education. Wewer’s presentation pertains to the Finnish education system which has been appraised to be one of the best in the world, and introduces its key aspects and components.
Denison University’s Global Studies Seminars are interdisciplinary intellectual forums to discuss and debate academic and policy issues of global importance.
