The Vail Series and the Department of Music welcome Sam Bush as a headliner for the 13th Annual Bluegrass Festival, featuring members of the Denison Bluegrass Ensemble opening the concert.
Bush has helped to expand the horizons of bluegrass music, fusing it with jazz, rock, blues, funk and other styles. He’s the co-founder of the genre-bending New Grass Revival and an in-demand musician who has played with everyone from Emmylou Harris and Bela Fleck to Charlie Haden, Lyle Lovett and Garth Brooks. Although Bush is best known for jaw-dropping skills on the mandolin, he is also a three-time national junior fiddle champion and Grammy award winning vocalist, as well as having been honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Americana Music Association.
Tickets are free to Denison students, faculty, and staff. A limited number of tickets will be available to the general public for $15.00 each on a first-come, first-serve basis. Tickets may be reserved by email at vailseries@denison.edu.
The Bluegrass Festival opens on Friday, March 3, at 7 p.m. in Swasey Chapel, with a concert featuring Larry Sparks and The Lonesome Ramblers. This concert is free and open to the public.
