Rediscover Ohio’s untold stories—join us for a powerful panel on Indigenous history, resilience, and cultural legacy, featuring voices shaping the narrative of Native Ohio.

Join us for a compelling conversation that brings to life the narratives often missing from Ohio’s history. This panel features:

  • John Bickers (Miami Tribe of Oklahoma), a historian at Case Western Reserve University
  • Talon Silverhorn (Eastern Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma), an interpreter
  • Chris Welter, a writer and journalist
  • Moderated by Jack Shuler, chair of journalism and professor of English at Denison University.

Each panelist offers unique perspectives on the region’s Indigenous past and present.

Drawing from “The Ohio Country” podcast project, the discussion will explore the experiences of Miami, Shawnee, Wyandotte, and other American Indian communities, examining their pivotal role in shaping Ohio’s history and their enduring cultural impact. Together, the panelists will reflect on the themes of displacement, resilience, and cultural legacy as they discuss how these stories can inform our understanding of the future.

This panel is part of the Denison Museum’s spring 2025 exhibition, Echoes of Ohio’s Indigenous Legacy: Bridging Past and Present funded in part by the America 250-Ohio Commission

This event is in partnership with the Journalism Department and the Granville Historical Society.
