Denison University’s Laura C. Harris Series welcomes Falami Devoe. Devoe, Holistic Human Development Strategist / Self-Care Ritualist and author of the “Self-Care Ritualist Journal” (Dr. Falami, LLC, 2021), is a Womanist and poet with interdisciplinary interests at the intersections of race, class, gender, identity, sexuality, ethnography, and pedagogy. Devoe’s work documents Black women’s experiences of resilience, resistance, agency, and affirmation. She is passionate about sustainable communities of care and collective practices of healing, liberation, and well-being.
She received her Doctor of Philosophy from the Graduate School of Leadership and Change from Antioch University, two Master of Fine Arts degrees (Leadership and Change; Educational Leadership) from Antioch University, and a Bachelor of Arts from Hampton University. She is a Certified Holistic Health Coach and a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
During her mini residency at Denison University from February 12-16, 2024, Devoe will focus on “Self-Care for Educators in Higher Education: Cultivating a Culture of Wellness as Resistance.” With a deep commitment to healing and justice, Devoe creates safe and inclusive environments as a facilitator and space holder where individuals can share their stories, find healing, and gain strength from community connection. Devoe will visit classes, engage with faculty over meals, lead workshops and a field trip, and provide one-on-one consultations.
