The Department of Music presents TUTTI Festival concert V: “Mareas/Tides,” a dance performance by Denison dance faculty, Marion Ramirez and Ojeya Cruz Banks, and music faculty celebrating sacred celestial-ocean relationships through story-telling, song, and improvisation. It traces the storied geographies between and through Puerto Rico, Guåhan to Aotearoa to Alabama to Senegal. The performance braids the artists’ distinct island cosmologies together and embodies the gravitational power of the African diaspora flowing through the Caribbean and Indigenous Pacific worlds. The program features musicians Pete Mills, Timothy Carpenter, Matthew Dixon, and Dean Hulett. Video projections by Chris Faur.
TUTTI is a week-long festival celebrating new music and art, bringing artists across disciplines to Denison and the central Ohio community. This year’s festival features Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Raven Chacon, modern music collective Wild Up, cello quartet UCelli, Denison’s Ensemble-in-Residence ETHEL, and other artists in a multitude of concerts.
