Called “a raucous, grungy, irresistibly exuberant … fun-loving, exceptionally virtuosic family” by Zachary Woolfe of the New York Times, Wild Up has been lauded as one of classical music’s most exciting groups by virtually every significant institution and critic within earshot.
The GRAMMY®-nominated ensemble was started by Artistic Director Christopher Rountree, his vision of a group of young musicians that rejected outdated traditions and threw classical repertoire into the context of pop culture, new music, and performance art.
The group celebrates over 10 years of bringing people together around the belief that no music is off limits, that classical music concerts can defy convention and address the need for heart- wrenching, mind-bending experiences. Wild Up is a laboratory for experimenting with the future of sound. It’s an ethos about what a concert should feel like, how music should function in our lives, and how music can bring us together. To us, the name Wild Up means: the thoughtful, unabashed, hearts open, eyes up feeling that connects us when we make and listen to music.
Wild Up is part of our week-long TUTTI New Arts Festival, featuring Pulitzer Prize winning composer, Raven Chacon, bringing a musical journey where no genre is off limits. For a full listing of TUTTI Festival events and concerts visit https://denison.edu/series/tutti

The Vail Series was endowed in 1979 by a generous gift from the late Mary and Foster McGaw in honor of Jeanne Vail, class of 1946. Just as it was intended to do, the Series enriches the artistic experience of the entire Denison community. Programmed creatively with the mindful pursuit of learning across traditional academic boundaries, more than 100 individual Vail Series artists have found their way to Denison’s classrooms and stages, but that doesn’t include the dozens of ensembles or full symphony orchestras that have played here over the years.
