Denison’s Studio Art program welcomes Paddy Johnson. Curator, artist, writer, Johnson was in residence at Denison February 14-18. She gave a gallery talk in the exhibition she curated (see below) and met with the Studio Art students in individual critiques.
“Graphic Interchange Format” was both the title and the substance of a new art exhibition at Denison. The exhibition began with a gallery walk with curator Paddy Johnson, on Friday, Feb. 18, in the Mulberry Gallery. The exhibition ran through Friday, March 25.
This exhibition surveyed a small subsection of fine art workers within this growing subculture of image-makers. Focusing on work that engages both the language of the Internet and fine art, this exhibition aimed to articulate the value of the GIF in the context of the gallery. Participating artists included Duncan Alexander, Kevin Bewersdorf, Saul Chernick, Petra Cortright, Stephanie Davidson, dump.fm, MTAA (Tim Widden and Michael Sarff), Lorna Mills, Tom Moody, Marcin Ramocki, Ryder Ripps and Spirit Surfers.
The event was sponsored by the Studio Art Program, the Vail Visiting Artist fund and the Spectrum Series at Denison.
