Dailin Morfa and Jenavier Tejada, both members of the Class of ’24, will study abroad in Ghana and Argentina next year, courtesy of a Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship. Gilman Scholarship-supported study abroad experiences provide skills critical to national security and economic prosperity. The program aims to develop a generation of future American leaders who represent the rich diversity of the nation.
Dailin Morfa ’24
Morfa, a junior majoring in global commerce, is using her Gilman funds to study at a School for International Training (SIT) program in Ghana on Globalization, Cultural Legacies and the Afro-Chic Spring. “Studying abroad in Ghana,” Morfa explains, “will help me understand more about the African Diaspora, and not only how it impacted the Americas, but also the lasting effect it had within Africa, as well. ” Morfa is a Posse Scholar. Posse Scholarships are full-tuition leadership scholarships funded by Denison.
Jenavier Tejada ’24
Tejada, a junior majoring in biology, is using her Gilman funds to study at a School for International Training (SIT) program in Argentina on Public Health in Urban Environments. “Attending the Public Health in Urban Environments program,” Tejada says, “I am working toward my goal of helping others by understanding epidemiological situations in different areas of the world.” Tejada is a Posse Scholar. Posse Scholarships are full-tuition leadership scholarships funded by Denison.
The Gilman Scholarship is open to U.S. citizens receiving federal Pell grants pursuing a credit-bearing study abroad or internship program. The Lisska Center for Intellectual Engagement supports Denison students who are interested in this opportunity as well as other international fellowships and scholarships.
- The next cycle of applications is due March 9, 2023 for study/internship abroad programs beginning between May 1, 2023 and April 30, 2024.
- Students may also apply in October for programs beginning between December 1, 2023, and October 31, 2024.
