Emily Wright, a Denison University graduate from North Royalton, Ohio, received the Frederic K. W. Curry Theatre Award for 2014. This annual award was endowed in 1988 by the Curry family in memory of the 1954 graduate who played leading roles in Denison theatre productions while majoring in Sociology. The recipient is a graduating senior who, like Curry, has made a significant contribution to theatre production at Denison while majoring in another discipline.
Wright had majors in English and French and a minor in Theatre. Her off-campus semester was spent in Nantes, France, studying the language.
At Denison, Emily Wright continued her high school interest in stage managing. She was stage manager for “A Streetcar Named Desire,” “Einstein & the Roosevelts,” and “The Tragical History of Doctor Faustus.” She ran the light board for “Dead Man’s Cell Phone” and the sound board for “The Drowsy Chaperone.”
As a senior, she served as President of the Denison Independent Theatre Association, having participated in DITA productions throughout her Denison career, stage managing the One-Act Play Festivals and their production of “The Road Bizarre.”
In her home town, she served as stage manager for the Royalton Players for their production of “The 25th annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.” During the past summer, she was a production intern at the Inwood Shakespeare Festival in Manhattan.
Emily Wright was an employee of the Theatre Scene Shop throughout her four years at Denison. She intends to pursue internships in stage management as the next step in her theatrical career.
