2020-2021 International Studies Fellows

My name is Louise Ineza. I’m from Rwanda which is located in East Africa. I’m currently a junior majoring in International Studies. I have been graced with the opportunity to experience different cultures while growing up as well as my own and this is something I continue to do within my major as well; learning about how different economies and societies operate and the inequalities that lie within societies. On campus, I’ve been involved with residential communities as a CA and a June-O leader, and I’ve also served as a peer mentor. Outside of school, I enjoy reading poetry, discovering new places and spending time with the people I love.

My name is Caleb DeLong and I am an International Studies Junior Fellow for the 2020-2021 academic year. I am an International Studies and French double major from the beautiful city of Zanesville, Ohio. On campus I serve as the treasurer of Outlook, a TA for the French department, and most recently as an August Orientation leader. I plan to further my research on my International Studies Concentration: What It Means to Be French: “Otherness”, Post-Colonial Beauty Standards, and Miss France.

My name is Fatoumata Sow, but everyone calls me Fatou. I am a junior international studies major with a concentration in Latin American and Caribbean Studies and double minoring in Spanish and Psychology. While I did not get to study abroad this semester, last summer, I interned for Mitchelle Obama’s program Girls Opportunity Alliance program, which seeks to bring awareness and provide funding to grassroot leaders who are proactive in fighting for girls education rights all around the world. In my free time, I love traveling to new states and countries, eating great food, giving back to my communities, and inquiring global knowledge and lessons along the way. I want to help promote equality and progression to all regions of the world.

My name is Mark Reid, and I am a senior from Maumee, Ohio, studying International Studies and Environmental Studies. On campus, I am a fellow for the International Studies and Environmental Studies departments, an intern at the Center for Global Programs, a senior manager at the student mailroom, and I help coordinate Denison’s Annual Refugee Awareness Week. I studied abroad last spring in Edinburgh, Scotland, and fell in love with the city immediately. My favorite part was hiking up to Arthur’s Seat, which is an extinct volcano that has great views of the city from a high point. In my free time, I like to go on runs, spend time outside with friends, and make new playlists on Spotify!

My name’s Fatimah Elghazawi and I am a senior International Studies and French double major with a minor in Women’s and Gender Studies. I’m originally from Cairo, Egypt and now live in Cleveland, OH. I work as a CA and Senior Docent, a Peer Advisor, French TA, intern coordinator for the Office of Student Development. I’m involved in DCGA, MSA, MECO, the First Generation Network, and the Global Fellows Committee. I love to travel (13 countries!), spend time with those I love, read, bake, and learn languages- I’m on track to speak 4 fluently!

My name is Liza Higley and I am a senior from Readington, New Jersey. I am an International Studies major with a History minor and a Narrative Journalism concentration. My International Studies concentration focuses on the connection between certain government systems and political violence; something I was able to begin learning about during my study abroad semester in Catalonia, Spain. I’ve spent the past few summers interning within state government in New Hampshire, and more recently in the Press Office of the US Agency for International Development. I also play field hockey on campus, and work in the Office of Admissions as an interviewer and tour guide.

My name is Martha Kamikazi and I am a global citizen at heart but my roots are in Kigali, Rwanda. At Denison, I’ve been involved with the Modern Languages Department, History Department, African Student Association and Black Student Union. My study abroad experience in Botswana (Spring 2020) invigorated my passion for Health Equity; I look forward to dedicating my career in Global Health policy to asking this question: “Whose rights are bound to be violated and in what ways?” In my spare time you might find me catching up on my favorite shows, dancing to Afrobeats and Soca, or simply enjoying time with my family.

My name is Adam Cromwell and I am a senior from Mercersburg, PA. I am concentrating in Middle East and North Africa Studies and I am also a Spanish minor. On campus, I am the captain of the Men’s Cross Country and Track & Field teams as well as the music director for the Hilltoppers. I studied abroad last spring in Amman, Jordan with the SIT Jordan: Geopolitics, International Relations, and Future of the Middle East program. I am also interning for the Arab-American Project of Central Ohio, run by Dr. Hanada Al-Masri, as a translator and transcriber. I am very passionate about foreign languages - I am taking both Arabic and Spanish, and am also passionate about running, soccer, and music. I hope to work abroad in the future for the State Department or Foreign Service, specifically in the Middle East inshallah!
