The Environmental Studies Program is happy to have Dr. Melanie Meinzer as part of their faculty this year. She joined the ENVS program in the fall of 2018 as a Consortium for Faculty Diversity Postdoctoral Fellow. Dr. Meinzer received her BA in political science from St. Olaf College, and acquired her MA and PhD in Political Science at the University of Connecticut. After obtaining her PhD in 2017, she worked as a Visiting Assistant Professor of Political Science at St. Olaf College from 2017 - 2018. She then began teaching in the Environmental Studies Program at Denison University in the fall of 2018.
Dr. Meinzer taught Politics of the Global Environment in the fall, and is teaching Environmental Justice this spring. Dr. Meinzer enjoys working in the Environmental Studies Program at Denison because it provides a close-knit community for students and professors who care deeply about the environment. Dr. Meinzer is currently co-authoring a book with Dr. Mark Boyer at University of Connecticut entitled The Adaptation Imperative: Global Climate Change and the Urgency of Local Action. She is also working on a second book project entitled Decolonizing Foreign Aid: Critical International Relations Theory, Education and Resistance based on her doctoral research in the West Bank. Dr. Meinzer enjoys working in the Environmental Studies Program at Denison because it combines her research and teaching in Political Science and Environmental Studies. She plans to continue her work in higher education on issues of social and environmental justice after her time at Denison.
