“Decolonizing the Museum” class visits the Columbus Museum of Art

On Sunday, October 8th, Julia Fernandez’s Art History and Visual Culture/Latin American & Caribbean Studies “Decolonizing the Museum” class visited the Columbus Museum of Art in downtown Columbus, Ohio. The course critically examines the history and practices of museums, analyzing the move toward decolonizing museums in the U.S. 

The visit allowed students to explore the museum’s inclusive practices, including its Wonder Room, an experimental gallery that engages intergenerational visitors in participatory ways. The museum visit sparked a lot of questions and discussions that will inspire the students’ own exhibition opening at the end of November in the Mulberry Gallery.
