Biography

2021-22 marks the 10th season with Seth Hayes serving as Denison’s Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach. Three years ago, Hayes was promoted to Associate Head Coach. Hayes came to Denison after spending one season as an Assistant Coach at Heidelberg University in 2011-12.

In nine seasons with the Big Red, Denison has won 137 games and advanced to six North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament Final Fours. In 2015-16, Denison went 23-5 and advanced to the NCAA Division III Tournament for the seventh time in school history, the first as an At-Large Bid. That same season, the Big Red captured their fourth NCAC Championship.

As Assistant Coach, Hayes’ array of responsibilities include recruiting and scouting coordination, positional development, JV Head Coach, and directing summer camps.

Following the 18-19 season, Hayes was selected for a collection of exclusive coaching opportunities to further hone her experience. In May 2019, Hayes was selected in the first facilitator training for the NCAA OneTeam program. OneTeam is a program to recognize the importance and identify strategies for the respect and inclusion of LGBTQ student-athletes at Division III institutions. Hayes trains athletic department staff of regional institutions on cultural competency and non-discrimination policies as set forth by the NCAA.

Hayes also attended the Women’s Coaches Academy offered by WeCOACH, graduating as part of Class #48 in June of 2019. WeCOACH is an organization dedicated to the recruitment, advancement, and retention of women coaches of all sports and levels.

A 2011 graduate of Ohio Wesleyan University, Hayes was a four-time All-North Coast Athletic Conference selection and the conference’s Newcomer of the Year in 2008. In 108 career games with the Battling Bishops, she scored 1,461 career points and grabbed 673 rebounds. Hayes averaged 13.5 ppg and 6.2 rpg and, and ranks 18th on the North Coast Athletic Conference’s all-time scoring list.

A native of St. Louis, Missouri, Hayes earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Women’s and Gender Studies from Ohio Wesleyan. She also earned her Master of Education in Sport Management from Ashland University in 2015.

Hayes and her wife, Kira, live in Granville with their kids, Aiden and Nayah.
