Biography

Born and raised in Seoul, South Korea, San Sung Aum has been playing piano since age six. She is an active soloist and chamber musician. She studied at Yewon Arts School, Seoul Arts High School, and Seoul National University where she earned a Bachelor’s degree under Professor HyungBae Kim with SNU Superior Academic Performance Award. She moved to the U.S. to continue her music studies at the Eastman School of Music for her Master’s degree in Piano Performance and Literature under Professor Enrico Elisi. She received a Doctor of Musical Arts in Piano Performance under the tutelage of Awadagin Pratt at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, with two minors in chamber music and piano pedagogy in April 2022.

She has appeared in venues such as Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, Bruno Walter Auditorium at Lincoln Center, the Chamber Hall at Sejong Art Center, and the Grand Theater at Seogwipo Art Center as well as in Europe, including Italy and Germany. She has won numerous competitions such as American Protégé International Piano Competition in New York, International Florestano Rossomandi Piano Competition in Italy, the United States International Duo Piano Competition in Colorado, OHIO International Piano Duo Competition, Korea-Germany Brahms Association Music Competition, and CBS broadcast Competition.

Aum has been featured in international music festivals, including the CCM Prague International Piano Institute, Seoul National University International Piano Academy, as well as the International Keyboard Festival and Institute (IKIF), the Amalfi Coast Festival in Italy, the Hanover Music Festival in Germany, Rebecca Penneys Piano Festival, Chautauqua Piano Festival, and Aspen Music Festival.
