Puerto Rican dance artist Marion Ramírez has been immersed in the practice and pedagogy of somatics, collaborative art making and improvisational dance as a tool for experiencing bodily agency, empathy, and community building. Her movement research is rooted in her cultural sensibility as a Caribbean artist and informed by the diversity of dance training and performance experience in Puerto Rican experimental dance, flamenco, salsa, contemporary dance, ballet, contact improvisation among others. Her choreographic work and performer career has included extended residencies in Puerto Rico, Cuba, Europe, South Korea, and the US. She holds a BFA from The Laban Center, London and an MFA at Temple University.
Marion’s movement training expands from pantomime, Puerto Rican social dance forms, ballet, flamenco, Brazilian lambada, contemporary dance, contact improvisation and numerous improvisational dance techniques. She is certified in Somatic Movement Therapy, Dynamic Embodiment and is the founder/director of Caracola, an intergenerational somatic movement project. She was awarded the Reflection: Response Choreographic Commission 2019 for the multi-disciplinary project kNots and Nests in Philadelphia and most recently curated and co-created Mareas along with Ojeya Cruz-Banks honoring World Water Day and environmental justice for Puerto Rico. She has served as guest faculty in numerous universities and international festivals and is currently an Assistant Professor at Denison University in Ohio.
