Jane Palmer
Jane joined the Global Commerce Program in 2016, bringing to Denison almost two decades of experience managing international experiences for university students. Having earned her B.A. at a liberal arts institution, Jane is excited to be contributing to Denison’s uniquely liberal arts approach to understanding commerce and organizational cultures in a globalized world.
As Assistant Director for Global Commerce Programs, Jane’s responsibilities include the strategic design and management of the Global Commerce co-curricular program, oversight of the GC “off-campus experience”, and the cultivation of a network of local, alumni, and global contacts to develop a robust program of events, internships, mentoring, and other student-centered opportunities for Global Commerce students. She collaborates with the Director and GC committee to develop strategies to forge an innovative path forward for the thriving Global Commerce major program. As part of this effort, she also works closely with the Knowlton Center for Career Exploration and the Off-Campus Study Office to provide opportunities for students outside of the classroom that may take place as nearby as Columbus or as far away as Hong Kong.
Jane came to Denison from The Ohio State University’s Max M. Fisher College of Business, where she served as an academic advisor for undergraduate business majors and program manager for undergraduate international programs. At OSU, her responsibilities included the planning and oversight of professional development events for the Global Business Learning Community, assisting students in identifying career goals commensurate with individual business-sector interests, teaching multiple sections of the Business Survey college success course, and designing office initiatives for promoting cross-cultural understanding within the undergraduate business student population. During her time with the Fisher College of Business, Jane developed strong and ongoing connections with the Columbus business community.
Prior to her role at Fisher, Jane was a study abroad coordinator in Ohio State’s Office of International Affairs where she managed a portfolio of university-sponsored study abroad programs serving approximately 300 undergraduate and graduate students, as well as serving as an international student immigration advisor. She has traveled extensively throughout Western Europe and also to Africa, Australia, and South America. Having lived in the Netherlands for four years and having also served as an administrative resident director for short-term programs in Brazil, England, Panama, and Senegal, Jane is uniquely poised to help Global Commerce students with their exploration of the intersection of culture and commerce around the world. She is thrilled to partner with the outstanding faculty and staff at Denison to provide Global Commerce students with dynamic co-curricular initiatives that will support their personal, professional, and academic success. She has been impressed by how much support Denisonians provide to each other, and is gratified that her own work can facilitate some of these connections. Jane holds a Bachelor of Arts in French with a management minor from Wittenberg University and Master of Arts in Higher Education Administration & Student Affairs from The Ohio State University.
