Denison University students Rachel Azbell ’19 and Anthony Bruno ’20, voice and saxophone respectively, have been accepted into the 2018 Jazz Education Connection of Ohio (JECO) Intercollegiate Jazz Ensemble, a group made up of some of the best collegiate jazz students in Ohio. They will perform at 9:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 9, in the Columbus Convention Center, at the Ohio Music Education Association (OMEA) conference.

“Rachel and Anthony are two exceptionally talented and hard-working students,” said Pete Mills, director of the Denison Jazz Ensemble. “It is an honor for them to be selected for this highly competitive group. We are so proud of them.”

Students in Denison’s music program learn history, composition and performance. They can participate in 20 ensembles that run the gamut from bluegrass and jazz to gospel and orchestra. Liberal arts students have a wide range of interests and non-majors are welcome to participate ensembles and programs. Individual lessons are available to students at all levels of proficiency.
