For those alums that can’t wait until their next reunion to spot the top of Swasey Chapel welcoming them home through a tree-lined hill, we have just the thing. Granville artist James Young, who co-owns Kussmaul Gallery on Broadway with his wife, Jen, made a print of this heartwarming sight and transferred it to a tile coaster with a cork back. New T
This summer, 45 students and staff gathered on campus early to welcome 654 students from the Class of 2022. This annual tradition includes the Induction Ceremony, games, the Slayter Sizzle, ice breakers, and, of course, matching T-shirts for all student volunteers.
Theatre Warm-Up
Denison has long supported the arts, as this sign found in the William Howard Doane Library’s Archives and Special Collections shows. Denison Summer Theatre began in the late 1940s under what came to be a beloved blue tent. Over 17 seasons, students and faculty produced 156 plays for a cumulative audience of 291,768 before folding the canvas. While the blue tent no longer stands, the new Michael D. Eisner Center for the Performing Arts has taken shape years later in its place. In a nod to the past, the Center’s lobby will be named in honor of Gay Reese, the business manager for Denison Summer Theatre. Opening in 2019, the center will continue the work of supporting art and community. An important difference? Cushioned seats and air conditioning.
