The residents of Taylor House this year walked and talked a bit softer upon late night returns from the village or other parts of the campus. They didn’t wake a special neighbor, Noah Arthur Hausman. Inarguably Denison’s youngest resident, Noah lives with his mom, Kristan, and dad, Dan, in #105 Taylor. Their apartment is one of three on-campus residences provided for assistant directors of residence life, a position Kristan had held since 2004. Noah moved in two days after he was born on August 15, 2005. Just two weeks later, as classes resumed for the fall, Noah made his first appearance at a house meeting where Mom introduced him to his neighbors. Student residents in the North and South Quad halls that Kristan supervises were treated to visits from the joyful newborn, too. Since then, Kristan says, the babysitting offers have been frequent—a perk, surely, of being surrounded by notoriously poor college students.
Noah doesn’t seem to mind living on a college campus 18 years early. The relatively luxurious Taylor House, which is reserved for seniors with a minimum 3.25 GPA, received notable renovations last year, thanks to the generosity of John ’57 and Connie Taylor ’58. Noah’s blue-hued, on-the-go-themed “dorm” room has a license plate border and airplane mobiles, not unlike a suburban nursery might be. The apartment is without a tub, however, so bath time has been a challenge. As far as outside play goes, there may be lots of room to run or crawl as the case may be, but sandboxes and kiddie pools are a no-no on campus, regardless of age.
