In the case of an emergency, please call 911. For non-emergency concerns, contact the college dispatcher for assistance at 740-587-0810.

The University seeks to resolve concerns in a timely and effective manner, and provides community members with administrative procedures to raise concerns. Your referrals help us to connect members of the community to supportive resources and respond to concerns promptly and thoroughly. If you’re in doubt about where to share your concern, don’t worry. Complete a CARE Referral, and we’ll get the information to where it needs to go.

Why should you refer a student?

Centralized reporting

DU Cares receives referrals from all over campus. What may seem like an insignificant concern to you may be part of a much more complex situation for a student. Every piece of information matters in providing the most comprehensive support possible.

Early intervention

We believe in the principles of early intervention and proactive engagement, which permits us to intervene at the earliest and lowest level possible. Earlier interventions may preserve a wider range of options for students.

Support for you

You are not alone in managing or responding to a difficult situation. We are always available to talk through a situation and help brainstorm the best way to proceed. Please let us support you.

It is your responsibility

Denison University is a community of connection and care and we have a responsibility to one another. Referring students is one way you can help support the well-being and success of all Denison students.

What types of concerns should be referred?

Student concerns commonly fall into three categories: academic, behavioral, and physical.

Three ways to report concerns

  1. File a referral online through our referral form.
  2. Give us a call at 740-587-6765.
  3. Email us at ducares@denison.edu.

For emergency situations that involve an imminent risk of harm to self or others, we ask that you contact Campus Safety at 740-587-0810 or 911 prior to filling out the form. Referrals are reviewed during business hours and are not monitored after hours, on weekends, or during official University holidays.

Please be aware that any referral submitted to DU Cares, whether in-person, over the phone, or in email becomes a part of the student’s educational record, subject to FERPA, and may be disclosed to the student upon the student’s request.

What happens next?

DU Cares will review your referral during business hours. We will be in touch via phone or email to confirm our receipt of your referral and let you know who is following-up. We look forward to partnering with you to support our students.
