The Denison Museum presents “Cuttingly Clever: 20th Century Political Cartoons,” an exhibition of political cartoons from the Denison Museum collection and the Ross Museum of Art. This timely exhibition shows political cartoons spanning the early 20th century from notable artists that have been featured in magazines such as Puck, Philadelphia Public Ledger, Life Magazine, and The New York Post.

Each image tells its own unique story, but together they depict the broader scope of contemporary conflicts of their day. These poignant and provocative images use satire to create critical representations, taking sides when addressing key issues. Some topics were so powerful or divisive that they still resonate within American culture a century later: international conflicts, taxes, and cynicism with the two party system. When one thinks about the current election season, who are the people and what are the issues that will be remembered a century from now?

The exhibit runs from September 5 until December 16. The museum is open Monday through Friday from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
