The Department of Studio Art and the Denison Museum present a student exhibition, “Curiosity Ignites.” The exhibition demonstrates the ways with which the museum’s cross cultural collection can be a springboard for creative ideas and personal research, as well as connect to contemporary studio practice for studio art students. In creating their artworks, seniors from the studio art seminar class, Visual Arts Practicum, were given a guided tour through the Denison Museum’s collection of more than 8,000 items and asked to choose an object that seemed interesting to them. The objects ranged from Burmese sculptures to central African masks and even French war cartoons. The students responded in a variety of artistic mediums, including painting, sculpture and photography.
