“Noise, Music, and Noise Music”
The world is a sonically rich place. Human speech. Brake rotor’s screech. Refrigerator hums. Vehicular thrums. Musical notes. Bleating goats. Some sound is music: organized, intentional even. Notes and rhythms, sometimes harmony. Sometimes pleasant; sometimes not. Then there’s noise: chaotic or unplanned. Often unintended and often unavoidable. Arhythmic, or the rhythm of a machine. Pleasant? Only rarely. And then there’s noise music. How could that be? Let’s talk.
TUTTI is a week-long festival celebrating new music and art, bringing artists across disciplines to Denison and the central Ohio community. This year’s festival features Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Raven Chacon, modern music collective Wild Up, cello quartet UCelli, Denison’s Ensemble-in-Residence ETHEL, and other artists in a multitude of concerts.
