When we think about visual artists, certain types of work often come to mind: landscape paintings, or perhaps figurative drawings. Michael Jung ’58, Emeritus Professor of Studio Art is not a typical artist. You may have seen his large contemplative abstract painting in the stairwell at William Howard Doane Library. What few have seen before now is the expansive breadth of his studio practice that fills sketchbooks, albums, flat files, overflowing his entire painting studio. He was an explorer who used art to work through ideas; his paintings, drawings, prints, and sculptures were constantly evolving. In the classroom and studio, Jung’s linework and aptitude for color is a constant.
Thank you to Marilyn (Berger) Jung ‘58, Robin Brown, and the Jung family. Additional support and special thanks to James G. Hale ‘78.
