Denison University’s Goodspeed Lecture Series welcomes author Joseph Wiinikka-Lydon, presenting “The Moral Laboratory of War.”
Wiinikka-Lydon is currently a researcher at a European Union-funded Center for Ethics at the University of Pardubice, outside of Prague. His research on religion, conflict, and peacebuilding looks at the way violence transforms one’s moral development, also known as moral injury, and the consequences of such transformation for philosophical and theological notions of the self. He is the author most recently of “Moral Injury and the Promise of Virtue,” which explores notions of moral injury during the Bosnian War in the 1990s through the frame of virtue theory and language. Wiinikka-Lydon has also served as an assistant professor of religion at Birmingham-Southern College and as a visiting professor of religion at Denison University.
