Denison University welcomes Vail visiting artist Andy Campbell Campbell.
Andy Campbell, PhD, is an art and design historian whose work is sited at the juncture of identity-based political movements, their visual cultures, and art histories. Describes as “a telling visual tapestry of an emerging LGBTQ language and identity,” his book Queer X Design: 50 Years fo Signs, Symbols, Banners, Logos, and the Graphic Art of LGBTQ was released in May; his next book, Bound Together: Leather, Sex, Archives and Contemporary Art (forthcoming in late 2019/early 2020) examines artists who draw imagery and inspiration from leather archives to make queer work of the present.
His academic writings and art criticism can be found in ArtForum, GLQ, Rhizomes, and Aperture, amongst others. Currently, he is an Assistant Professor at University of Southern California’s Rossi School of Art and Design.
