Denison University’s Department of Philosophy and the Titus-Hepp Lecture Series welcomes Associate Professor of Philosophy at Emory University Rocio Zambrana, presenting “Historical Reckoning: Colonial Debts in Contemporary Puerto Rico.”
In this talk, Zambrana examines feminist resistance in the indebted unincorporated territory of Puerto Rico. Inhabiting the asymmetry and deferral distinctive of debt, feminist interventions turn financial debt into a site of reckoning with historical indeed colonial debts. She examines two key interventions by La Colectiva Feminista en Construcción.
Zambrana’s work examines critiques of capitalism and coloniality in various philosophical traditions, especially Marxism, Decolonial Thought, and Feminisms of the Americas (Latinx, Latin American, Caribbean).
