Titus-Hepp Lecture Series: James Dunson

Denison University’s Department of Philosophy and the Titus-Hepp Lecture Series welcomes Associate Professor of Philosophy at Xavier University of Louisiana James Dunson, presenting “Hate Speech: Nazis, Trolls, and the Perils of Democracy.”

What is hate speech, and under what conditions should it be restricted? This discussion examines three main reasons why those who are speech permissive (as opposed to those who are speech restrictive) are losing the debate…and what they would have to do to win.

Dunson is a Denison alumnus (2002). He is the author of “Sedation, Suicide, and the Limits of Ethics,” and the co-author of “Citizen of the World: Suffering and Solidarity in the 21st Century.”
