Artists’ books communicate their messages through an imaginative combination of images, text, technique, and format. Some are unique objects, while others are created in a series or in editions. Many are deeply felt expressions of the artists, or may explore contemporary socio-political concerns. All artists’ books are conceptual but provide tactile, interactive experiences for those lucky enough to read and handle them. Book + Art: The Reading Room features books by Ohio artists and is the result of sabbatical research conducted by Denison’s own University Archivist Heather Lyle.
