Denison Museum will be closed Saturday, November 17, 2012 thru Sunday, November 25, 2012 for the University Holiday.
Denison Museum is pleased to present fifty unforgettable photographs by Andrea Baldeck– physician turned fine arts photographer. With camera and stethoscope in hand, Baldeck made several trips to Hôpital Albert Schweitzer in the 1980s to volunteer as an anesthesiologist. In the mid-1990s, having left the operating room to become a fulltime fine arts photographer, Baldeck returned to rural Haiti where she proceeded to assemble a compelling series of black-and white portraits. Informed by Baldeck’s lifelong passion for art and science, each photograph is accompanied by a one-line Creole proverb that serves as lyrical counterpoint to the dignity, charm, and beauty of her Haitian subjects.
This exhibition was organized by the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology.
