Denison University’s Goodspeed Lecture Series welcomes Professor of Philosophy at John Jay College of Criminal Justice Jonathan Jacobs, presenting, “Jewish Tradition and the Judeo-Christian Tradition.”

What are distinctive contributions of Judaism and Jewish tradition to the Judeo-Christian Tradition? Do Jewish thought and commitment to Judaism look very different from inside them and from the perspective of the Western cultural/intellectual heritage overall? Is the Judeo-Christian tradition significant mainly as a source and origin or are its contemporary resonances also of the first importance? In what respects does it remain a vital, living element of contemporary political and intellectual culture?

Jacobs is a Presidential Scholar, and Director of the Institute for Criminal Justice Ethics at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, and member of the doctoral faculties of Philosophy and Criminal Justice at the City University of New York Graduate Center.
