Confronting Mara and Mammon: Buddhist-Christian Dialogue for Resistance and Spirituality.
This multi-day conference will bring seventeen renowned engaged Buddhist scholars, activists, and Christian liberation theologians. Through the lens of religion and critical social theories, the speakers will discuss the five areas in human society that have created the collective injustice or human suffering, such as global poverty, environmental destruction, religious fundamentalism, war, and gender/race/sexuality-based discrimination. Their talks will engage how religion/spirituality can organize or motivate people to resist structural injustice. The conference will end with the Compassion, Love, Awakening Meditation retreat led by Ruben Habito and John Makransky.
