Alexa Peterson: Pursue Growth & Learning

“Alexa is always participating in professional development training and courses not only as part of her job duties but on her own to enhance her skill sets. She asks questions that need to be asked, even if it’s a tricky topic, which ultimately gets us to a better result. She is no stranger to change in the workplace and has weathered every storm with an optimism that is contagious.”

Alexa joined the Advancement Information Systems team in August 2022. Previously, Alexa was an administrative assistant in the Office of Alumni & Family Engagement from October 2015 to August 2022. Before coming to Denison, Alexa worked for 10 years at The Container Store. She earned her A.A. in social work from Brigham Young University-Idaho in 1995. Alexa resides with her family in nearby Johnstown, Ohio. Reading through the nominations submitted on Alexa’s behalf, there were many superlatives, but one theme surfaced as one of our Great 8 – Pursue Growth and Learning. Here are a few excerpts from her nomination forms:

“While I’m a relatively newer employee, it doesn’t take years to recognize the value of colleagues like Alexa. The past several months have been challenging for everyone in various ways, and you really rely on your teammates as a new employee still adjusting and learning. I feel fortunate that I work on the same team with her and hope that Denison will recognize her years of consistent value through the SOS Employee of the Year Award. “Alexa is the spirit of the AFE team. She genuinely cares about the wellbeing and experience of each colleague she interacts with, and is always willing to lend a hand. She is thoughtful in her interactions, with a lens on how we can continuously improve. Denison is incredibly relational and Alexa embodies what President Weinberg often describes as the ideal Denisonian: someone who you want to be your neighbor. I think we all feel fortunate to work with her.”

“Alexa interacts with many colleagues in her role and treats every single person with the same level of respect and integrity. She recognizes the contributions of others on projects. It can be difficult to pinpoint exactly how you know when a workplace colleague brings a strong set of ethics and morals to the office each day, but you know it when it’s present, and Alexa is a model for it.”
