Denison recognizes that we are members of a greater community. As Denisonians, we look for ways to contribute to our community’s improvement, sustainability and success.
Deb Brent began her career at Denison in October of 1997 as a housekeeper/inpatient aide in Whisler. In November 2003 she moved to facilities services as a building services assistant (BSA) in Shorney with her good friend Judy McKnight. In November 2007 she got promoted to building services shift supervisor, and then in 2019 she got promoted to building services manager, where she is currently. Deb has also served on the ResCom Committee, in addition to her Facilities Services position. Deb loves to spend time with her family especially at Burr Oak campground every summer. Deb never hesitates to step up and contribute whenever she sees an opportunity.
She has been nominated for Denison’s Supportive Operating Staff Employee of the Year by her colleagues. Reading through the nominations submitted on Deb’s behalf, there were many superlatives, but one theme surfaced as one of our Great 8 – Inspire Trust.
In the nomination for this recognition, her colleagues noted:
“Deb is quick to admit if she makes a mistake and apologizes when needed. She trusts that others are acting with the best intentions. She is good about communicating her trust in others.”
“Deb acknowledges that everyone has different views and opinions and that at times we may need to “agree to disagree”. She does not hold those differences against you and oftentimes encourages conversation to express those views in a calm and respectful manner. Deb is one of the hardest working people in the Building Services department. Over the years she has worn many hats. I do not think she has removed any of those hats, she just keeps adding additional ones! She goes above and beyond to make sure that the needs of students and staff are met. She is very hands on and has no issue with diving in and helping where needed — be it cleaning a restroom or moving a desk. If extra hands are needed, she can be counted on.” “Deb is always looking for ways to improve herself and her staff. She comes up with innovative ideas to build teamwork and boost morale.”
“Deb is the most selfless person when it comes to everything, she always gives everyone the benefit of the doubt. You can always count on her, and she always sticks up for her employees.”
Thank you, Deb, for showing us so many examples of Inspiring Trust. You foster a supportive environment within our community that is authentic, transparent, and genuine. You are truly a woman who inspires trust!
